FAQs
How will my information be used?
The Hein Wagner Academy is committed to ethical and legal conduct and will only use your personal information for vetting and administrative purposes. All our Learnership sponsors are also fully POPIA compliant. Learnership sponsors will provide you with proof of compliance during your application. It is your legal right to request disclosure about your private information, and request that non-essential information be purged should you no longer engage with the Hein Wagner Academy or our affiliates.
If you have any concerns about the use of your personal information, please mail frederika@heinwagneracademy.org with your queries.
Do I need to pay any application fees?
No, there are no application fees due on sign-up. Since most Cyber Security applicants apply via a learnership sponsorship, all fees are covered by your sponsor should you be accepted into the programme.
Note: there may be fees relevant to the affidavits, certified documents or other requirements levied by external parties.
Can I study remotely?
Since this is an intensive three-year course, students are required to reside in Worcester for the duration of the Cyber Sentinel Programme.
The Hein Wagner Academy is focused on empowering the visually impaired to become financially independent. Our training is not merely aimed at professional accreditation, but nurturing social networks and other crucial life skills.
A holistic learnership of this kind is only effective when learners are on or near our campus for the bulk of their training.
Why do I need to provide a CV if I'm unemployed?
We’re aware that many learners may not have much practical experience, and that’s alright.
Your resume tells us more about who you are, what your hobbies are, the things you’ve studied (formally and informally), and gives us a better idea of the things that motivate you.
While a CV is a prerequisite for your application, rest assured that we accept both experienced and inexperienced candidates into our programme.
What if I don't have certified documents?
Affidavits and certified documents will be required should your learnership be approved. We request this documentation from the onset to ease the process and fast-track funding applications we submit on your behalf.
But we also understand that it’s not that easy to get things done on short notice. Should you consider yourself a suitable candidate, but don’t have your ducks in a row just yet – please contact Frederika@heinwagneracademy.org to enquire about your options.
I am interested in IT, but I don't understand all the technical terms
If you’re computer literate with a Grade 12 Certificate and at least 50% in English and Math Literacy – that’s all you need for now.
Everyone who starts off in cyber security is uninformed at the start – but if you’re willing to learn, inquisitive and dedicated, you should be able to grasp the basics in no time.
If you have any concerns or queries about the programme, feel free to contact our HoD of Cyber Security, Len Viljoen, on len@heinwagneracademy.org and he’ll answer all your questions.
Why must I be unemployed to apply?
Learnerships have a specific set of legislative and regulatory requirements they need to adhere to. Since most of our students enter the Cyber Sentinel programme via learnerships, the unemployment stipulation is there to ensure compliance with learnership applications.
Our focus is on empowering the visually impaired across cultures, classes and communities though – so if you check all other boxes and want to enrol of your own accord, please get in touch with us.
What accessibility and facilities do you provide for the visually impaired?
The Hein Wagner Academy is a one-of-a-kind intitution that specialises in training of visually impaired users.
Our campus is fully accessible, with assistive devices and technologies, residential accomodation with healthcare, catering and domestic services, wifi, as well as activity rooms and sports facilities.
While your programme will teach you the ins- and outs of cyber security, we’ll also coax you to engage socially, participate in extracurricular activities and try new hobbies.
That said, we respect each learner’s right to peace and solitude in the comfort of their own room.
What if I no longer want to study?
The terms of your training will depend on the nature of your enrolment and sponsorship, your progress, commitment, conduct and reasons for exiting the programme.
Cyber Sentinel is a highly specialised programme and students are required to complete the full programme since their learnerships are covered financially, and also require significant administrative and academic investment from our team.
Students who can’t commit to the full term of the programme may be liable for certain penalties, but this will be determined on a case to case basis considering the pathway and nature of their enrolment, their contractual agreements with relevant parties, as well as personal circumstances.
